line marking the boundary between the Welsh to the North East and the Normans

The Pembrokeshire Coast National
Park
Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Winch Lane, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire.
SA61 1PY.
Designated in 1952, it is also one of the smallest of the 11 national Park
areas of Wales and England, covering just 240 square miles and contains one
of the largest densities of protected environmental sites in Europe. The stunning
coastline can be seen at its best from the spectacular 186 mile Coast Path,
opened in 1970. As with any rugged landscape, the walker needs to be fully
prepared in order to enjoy this challenging path in safety. Stretching from
Poppit Sands in the north, to Amroth in the south. The coastline is dotted
with islands - Skomer, Skokholm, Grassholm, Ramsey, and Caldey - named by
Viking invaders.
Caldey houses a Cistercian monastery, whilst the other islands are famed for their seabird colonies, rich carpets of spring wildflowers, and Atlantic grey seals. The waters around Skomer and the Marloes peninsula make up one of only two Marine Nature Reserves in Britain, and the west coast islands are all internationally recognised for their wildlife.
The National Park is a haven for recreation, ideally suited to a variety of leisure activities, and the Park seeks to encourage enjoyment of the area while at the same time protecting the environment. Watersports such as swimming, boating, surfing and sailboarding are well catered for, while the Coast Path and the Presley Hills provide superb walking. There is also excellent sea cliff climbing in the north and south of the county, and both sea and river fishing are popular.
There are six Information Centres in and around the Park;
organising an annual programme of guided walks, boat trips, beach days, illustrated
talks and bus tours; and produces a varied range of publications. In addition,
school groups are given particular assistance and talks to outside bodies
can be arranged. Please telephone for details.
